Sara and Dean chose to have a Pravda Vodka House and Gooderham Building Engagement shoot. When first discussing the engagement shoot, Sara and Dean had expressed they wanted to steer away from the traditional route. They wanted the finished product to look more like an editorial spread from a fashion magazine rather than your typical engagement photos. We love being able to try new things, so of course we were excited about this project! The couple’s choice to use Pravda Vodka House as our photographic setting aligned perfectly with their vision – sophisticated, chic, and trendy.
Pravda Vodka House was opened to encourage a new appreciation for vodka, and with 70 of the world’s finest vodka it’s safe to say the lounge has done just that. Aside from the vodka, what makes this place so appealing is its Russian-inspired décor. When we arrived for the engagement shoot it felt like we had stepped outside Toronto to be immersed by another culture – it was a truly unique experience!
We began shooting at the front of the lounge, which was the only location with natural light. For the rest of the shoot we had to rely on external flashes and our Ice Light to illuminate faces. Another positive factor about working with the Pravda Vodka House was that there was variety of backdrops and furniture at our disposal. This allowed us to try a number of different poses we couldn’t normally do outside. For example, we absolutely love the photo of Sara sitting on the table while Dean rests his hand on her shoulder.
After we were done inside we walked around the surrounding streets to discover a water foundation and the Gooderham Building. This made for another interesting backdrop in its architectural design. The red-brick building has a triangular shape that was constructed in 1892. The Gooderham Building also has an interesting mural painted on the back wall that has become quite infamous in Toronto.
We had a fabulous day with Sara and Dean discovering unique attractions Toronto has to offer and we think the photos turned out great! We are glad to have had this opportunity to work with Sara and Dean and we wish them both well.
